5 Exercises for Your Keiki

On Sunday mornings, a group of children flows into UFC Gym in Honolulu for an hour-long cardio and strength training class. The class is led by youth coach Jason Simon and includes a warm-up, cardio, ground exercises, and strength exercises. The kids have a great time with coach Jason and enjoy each other’s company.

Organizations like the American Heart Association and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that children and adolescents get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Exercise should be mostly aerobic but also include activities that strengthen the muscles and bones.

Physical activity for children is important because it can help to control weight, reduce blood pressure, and improve self-confidence. It can also set the stage for a lifetime of good habits. If you can’t make it to the gym, here’s a look at the class and five exercises you can try with your keiki at home or in the park.
